About the IIRA

The International Industrial Relations Association (IIRA) was established in 1966 in response to a growing need to develop and exchange knowledge in the field of industrial relations, at the international level, and provide the academic and the practitioner with a forum for discussion and research.

The Association has over 1,000 members worldwide including prominent industrial relations scholars and practitioners. Subjects such as globalization, new technology, gender, HIV/AIDS, employee involvement, occupational safety and health, industrial relations, labour law, human resource management, international labour standards, social dialogue, labour administration, informal economy, and many other topics are largely discussed during its congresses.

The IIRA members include industrial relations directors, officers or practitioners, social dialogue specialists, labour administrators, employment relations specialists, human resource consultants, members and representatives of workers' and employers' organizations, government officials, labour lawyers, students, academics and all others dealing with employee relations.

In the Philippines, the national association of the IIRA is the PIRS, Inc. (or Philippine Industrial Society) <http://www.ilo.org/public/english/iira/organization/members/philippines.htm> whose primary purpose is the advancement of knowledge and research in the industrial relations field. The PIRS, Inc. hosts the annual National Industrial Relations Conference. Among the PIRS committees are the membership and fellowship, national conference, chapters, student chapters, corporate social responsibility, publications, ways and means, sports and socials, etc.

The training arm of PIRS, Inc. is the IIRA Institute that is managed by the International Industrial Relations Association Phil. Inc. (IIRA Phil.). It offers a continuing education and training program for IR and HR professionals and practitioners and a Fellowship in Industrial Relations (FIR) award.

The IIRA Institute regularly conducts seminars, training programs, learning sessions, symposiums and forums.
